The main idea of ​​fasting is not only not to consume forbidden products, but also to purify spiritually in order to prepare for the Feast. By fasting and prayer we can overcome weaknesses or problems. Sometimes we can fast and pray if other people need help. For example, family members who are sick and in need of blessing.
The Lord counseled, «And if you fast, do not be sad as the hypocrites, because they change their faces, so that the people who they fast can see.»
The Church’s Charter completely excludes meat, eggs and milk during the Great Fast.
According to the Greek custom, seafood and fish can be used on Saturdays and Sundays. However, in our country some types of seafood are considered to be delicacies. And exotic food can hardly be considered lean.
This also applies to sweets, which may include entirely lean products, but are extremely exotic and not with lean price.
Especially important: both during and after fasting, to avoid lies, negative emotions, not to commit evil, to love with all others. And treat others as much as we would like to treat us. Love your neighbor as yourself!
